You would not leave every resident meeting, payroll deadline or financial review to whichever time remained at the end of the week.
Your own development may be getting exactly that treatment.
There is always another immediate need in senior living. If growth depends on a quiet week, it can remain an intention indefinitely. A useful starting point is to make the work small enough to fit a real week and specific enough to matter.
“Become a better manager” is difficult to schedule. “Prepare the opening for a conversation I have been avoiding” fits a defined block of time. So does reviewing a contribution for your annual review or identifying a decision you could delegate more clearly.
Choose one current situation. Give yourself 20 minutes to write what is happening, what you are assuming, what outcome matters and what action you could take. Put that action into the calendar as well. Reflection becomes more useful when it changes what happens next.
If you supervise others, examine whether development time is genuinely protected or simply encouraged until operations become busy. Ask people what they are working on and what practical support would help. Avoid making growth another unpaid expectation added to an already overloaded week.
Put it into practice: reserve one short block this week for a single question that matters to your work or career. Keep a note of the action you take and what you observe afterward. Coaching can provide perspective and accountability around that process. The value develops through the thinking you do, the decisions you make and the actions you carry into everyday work.

What would you work on if you protected 20 minutes for your own development this week? I would like to hear your experience—even if you see it differently.
